Second City Court Reserve Constable and Tulane University Police Officer
Martinus Mitchum
Sergeant Martinus “Mitch” Mitchum, was born October 14, 1982 in Detroit, Michigan. Early in his youth Mitch made the decision to devote his life to God, family and community service. This commitment to serving others led him to New Orleans where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and began his career in law enforcement.
Mentoring young people and his love of education, law and community was a perfect fit for “Mitch’s Mission” - to make a difference in the lives of the people whom he promised to protect. Mitch’s devotion to service didn’t go unnoticed among the members of his beloved community, making him a rising star in both the Tulane University Police Department as well as the New Orleans Police Department. Sergeant Mitchum was fatally shot while in the commission of his duties on February 26, 2021. He has left a legacy of love and light for all of us to “protect and serve” by mentoring and helping others in honor of his memory. Mitch’s Mission lives on through The Martinus Mitchum Foundation.
